Picking up after reading week, our start-up music this morning was a live version of John Coltrane's "My Favorite Things" (a song he adapted from The Sound of Music, of all places). Given that we're turning to the topic of peer review today, it seemed appropriate to listen to someone like Coltrane (or Charlie Parker, or Glenn Gould, or many others) who received some really negative reviews earlier in his career only to be considered one of the greats a few years later. There's a lesson in that for the reviewers and the reviewed alike.
